Jul 05 2010Do you have accounts on gmail , yahoo , hotmail and other email services how would it be to integrate all of them , not only email but your social networking acconts on facebook , linkedin , myspace and orkut and even you twitter account and all you instant messaging services (IM) like AIM , Gtalk , ICQ , etc .No i am not out of my mind. I myself have account on almost all of them and i know its really hard to even check updates on them . It like your one stop for checking new updates and do some cool tricks you would have never seen . How about using such all in one solution on your desktop as well as on your phone . Lets check them out :-
1 Windows
For windows there are two options we have Digsby and Trillian Astra . Digsby is completely free while Trillian Astra is available in two versions ( free and paid ) . I myself you Digsby . As a comparision Trillian Astra have some really sleak looks with some awesome themes to choose from while Digsby is more about ease of use and simplicity .
Digsby
All this may sound a bit complicated, but its not.. You have small icons in your taskbar for whatever social network/IM/email accounts you have already configured , and you receive instant notifications for that account according to a your preference. Instant notifications appears as small popup are a snapshot of your email, tweet, or IM, and you can reply by clicking on the popup . Moreover there are instant messaging aliases with tabbed IMing , ability to send SMS directly from the instant messaging window , formatted messages and much more. It has two drawback that it doesn’t support ICQ and no mac version is avaliable .
Trillian Astra
Its one of the oldest multi-chat protocol software but now it support much more like social networks , linkedin and even rss feeds . Its much better in looks then Digsby but it may take some time before you use it to it full potential . Its major benefit is that it is available in all major platform windows , mac and phone although its a bit complicated and all its features are not free .
2 Linux
Incase of linux we have pidgin and psi but they have a common downside they don’t support social networks like linkedin and even emails . I recommend linux users to use web based solution .Pidgin which supports AIM ,Gadu-Gadu, Bonjour,Groupwise, GTalk, ICQ, IRC, MySpaceIM , MSN, QQ, Sametime,SILC, Yahoo, XMPP, SIMPLE, Zephy. Pidgin also has a windows version.
3. Mac
For mac Adrium is the best free choice available . Adium serves a good job of providing
you your buddy lists in a smooth and simple interface. The networks it supports include MySpace IM, AIM,Yahoo, GTalk, Jabber,ICQ, MobileMe (MobileMe), MSN, Bonjour, Facebook chat and many more . So it covers almost all networks . Adrium gives you a wide range of choices as user preference so that you can set things up . If you are ready to pay then i would recommend Trillian Astra for Mac .
4. Web
For Web , no one can beat Meebo in simplicity .It has a pretty simple
design even for a computer noob . Although it doesn’t support ICQ and similar chatting protocols . Another choices are Ebuddy and ILoveIM .
5. Mobile
Mobile users can use Trutap . Trutap is a J2ME based application so users
with comparatively older phone can also use it . Trutap has a good list managment features like each list is separated with ability to collapse and expand . All standard IM protocols are supported . You can add add , delete or edit your contacts . You can also set a status Message .
So which one do you use ?
